• Book of Blood - Nestor Ponce de Leon (list of names of civilians condemned by the Spanish authorities during the beginning of the Ten Years War 1868-1870). NOTE - the names of prisoners and deportees in this book have been extracted to our data base at http://www.cubagenweb.org/mil/grande/prisoners/index.htm

• Censo de Cuba - 1899 (Cuban Census - 1899) - (mainly statistics - no list of household names - contains extensive listing of personnel of the census (employees and ennumerators) - some local histories mention names).2

• Españoles e Insurrectos - Recuerdos de la Guerra de Cuba - Francisco de Camps y Feliú - 1890 (Memories of the Ten Years War - contains many names - search for names within the book using the link provided by Google).

• Los Mambises Italianos - Fernando Ortiz - 1909 (Notes on italians who promoted the cause of Cuban Independence)3.

• Necropolis de la Habana: Historia de los cementerios de esta ciudad: con multitud de noticias interesantes (Necropolis of Habana: History of the cemeteries of this city: with many interesting news) - Domingo Rosain. 1875. (Includes the general history of various cemeteries in Habana and many biographies of prominent individuals of the era. There is an incomplete index to the Espada cemetery starting on page 544 and a description, but no index, of the Colon cemetery).3

• Los asturianos en el Norte (3a. edicion) y  los asturianos en Cuba (The Asturians in the North - 3rd ed. and the Asturians in Cuba) - Ramon Elices Montes, 1893.3

• Lo que Fuimos y lo que Somos, o la Habana Antigua y Moderna (What we Were and What we Are or the Old and Modern Habana) - Jose Maria de la Torre, 1857 (Imprenta de Spencer y Cia.)3

• Cuba and the Cubans - Raimundo Cabrera - translated to English by Laura Gutierrez, 1896, The Levytype Company - 442 pages (Cuban politics just prior to the War of Independence. Illustrated, with full page photos of various cuban scenes and photos or engravings of many significant personages. Includes results of general elections, political platforms, listing of government salaries, and even many poems. Appendix I contains many significant orders from the spanish government. Appendix II includes biographies of the people shown in the photos or engravings in the text. The final section is a description of Cuba and a summary of its history added by the editor).4

• Cuba and the Cubans - Richard Burleigh Kimball, Cristobal F. Madan, Jose Antonio Saco - 1850, Samuel Hueston, New York - 255 pages. A history of Cuba and its relationship to the United States and England, advocating the anexation of Cuba by the United States.4

• Guia de Forasteros - 1873 - Imprenta del Gobierno y Capitania General - 1873. Guide for visitors to Cuba. Published annually. Includes calendar of saint feast days and astronomical events and many useful lists of names, among them lists of Capital Generals, governors, Bishops, military officers, extensive lists of government officials, both national and local. members of honorary Orders, religious heirarchy, schools and professors, hospitals, professionals, etc. Also includes practical information such as tarifs for telegrams. Index at end of book.4

• History of Cuba, or notes of a Traveller in the Tropics - Maturin Murray Ballou - 1854 - J. C. Derby, 230 pages. Political, historical and statistical account by an opinionated author. Describes the situation in Cuba under Spanish rule.

• Coleccion de Datos Históricos-Geográficos y Estadísticos de Puerto del Príncipe y su Jurisdicción - Juan Torres Lasqueti, 1888, Imprenta El Retiro, Habana. Early Historical, Geographical and Statistical information of the Province of Puerto Principe (later named Camagüey).3

• Santiago de Cuba and its District (1607-1630) - Villaverde, Sanchez de Moya García Nabia, Velasco, Fonseca Betancur, Azevedo, Amezqueta Quijano, Roca de Borja. Written from documents in the Archive of the Indies, at Seville, Spain, created by Irene Aloha Wright, 1918, F. Peña Cruz, Madrid.3

• Yndice Alfabético y Defunciones del Ejército Libertador de Cuba - Mayor General Carlos Roloff y Mialofsky - 1901 - Imprenta de Rambla y Bouza, Habana. Official record of participants and deaths of the Cuban Liberation Army ("Mambi Army") which fought in the Cuban War of Independence (21 Feb 1895 - 24 Aug 1898).6

• El desarrollo urbano de Cienfuegos en el siglo XIX - Lilia Martin Brito, 1984, Universidad de Oviedo, Servicio de Publicaciones. ISBN 84-8317-094-9, Depósito legal: As-3.580/98. Describes the urban development of the city of Cienfuegos in the XIX century.7

• Guia Oficial de la Exposicion de Matanzas - Domingo Figuerola-Caneda, Impr. La Nacional - 1881 - 192 pages. Guide published after the exposition held 1-30 Nov 1880 in Matanzas. Includes many names of various organizing committees and participants.1
