although some have also been scanned and are available on line. Some are available as CD-ROMs. Some are in their original

Heritage Digital Collection web site.     Newspapers
The Diario de la Marina started publishing in 1844 as the "Official Newspaper of the Port of Habana", carrying mostly shipping information and related news. At the conclusion of the War of Independence, the Diario became a "normal" newspaper and carried some columns in the English language. In the 1950's I knew the Diario as a conservative newspaper read by my grandmother and detested by my father. The University of Florida Digital Library of the Caribbean has digitally scanned several years of the Diario de la Marina. As of this writing (Aug 2011) the following years are available on line. Not every issue is available for every year and many are missing the first page. Unfortunately the image definition when page is zoomed is too poor quality to be able to use it to transcribe passenger lists. Also, printing of a zoomed view does not work with any browser we tried. Florida International University, has extensive microfilm copies of the Diario de la Marina in their Government Documents Section of the Green Library in their Modesto A. Maidique campus. We found the following dates available at the library:
          1844-Dec 1882Sep 1899-Dec 1905Mar 1918-Apr 1960
According to the Cuban Genealogical Society's "Research
Guide for Cuba" there are copies of the Diario de la Marina
            in the following US libraries:

Genealogical Society, PO Box 2650, Salt Lake City, UT 84110. The REVISTA was published from 1988 to 1995 and from 2000 to 2007, with a single Special Issue published in 2009. The magazine was mostly devoted to listing groups of names
appearing in transcriptions from Parish registers and Notary Records in Cuba and articles about historical personalities. The Society closed and the REVISTA ceased publication in 2009. Thanks to the generosity of Mayra Sanchez-Johnson, who ran the Society and published the REVISTA, we have been given permission to digitize and post the Cumulative Index and all 57 issues of the magazine.
